DRESS CODE POLICY 2023
Schools are educational institutions. All students are expected to dress and groom themselves neatly in clothes that are suitable for school activities. School authorities may limit or prohibit any extreme type of student dress, personal appearance or use of wearing apparel, which, in the judgment of school officials, is deemed to be inappropriate for the school setting.
Students must wear:
● Tops or equivalent that touches the waistband of the bottom or equivalent in a normal standing position, be connected to the front and back on both shoulders with sleeves or straps that cover any undergarments, and covers from armpit to armpit with the sides from the armpit to the bottom intact. (Shirt, blouse, sweater, sweatshirt, tank, etc.)
● Bottom or equivalent that sits at the waistline and covers all private areas and undergarments.
● Footwear To ensure safety, this policy allows additional student attire requirements and reasonable variations when necessary while in certain educational and extracurricular settings (e.g. physical education classes, theater, dances, science, speech, or other courses and settings).
Students may not display tattoos or wear clothing, jewelry, or personal items that:
● Are pornographic, provocative, contain sexual innuendo, threats, or that promote illegal or violent conduct such as unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco or drug paraphernalia;
● Demonstrate hate group association/affiliation and/ or use hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation , gender identity, religious affiliation, or other protected groups (i.e. Rebel Flag symbols on clothing, hats, accessories, etc.);
● Intentionally or unintentionally show private parts or buttocks or visible undergarments when in a natural standing or sitting position and this includes holes in pants or shirts [NOTE: Clothing covering private areas and buttocks must be made from an opaque (non-see through) material.];
● Demonstrate gang affiliation; or
● Be considered a costume or costume accessory (sunglasses, tails, ears, facepaint, excessive make-up, undergarments worn as outerwear, items with spikes such as dog collars and wristbands, trench coats, etc.) or be considered a safety hazard.
Grayson County High School All students regardless of gender are expected to follow all guidelines of the GCHS dress code.
The administration at GCHS reserves the right to determine what constitutes appropriate attire. Students who do not adhere to these guidelines will not be allowed to attend class and may be placed in ICE until appropriate clothing can be obtained by parent/guardian or school.
