YOUNG MAN AND WELDING INSTRUCTOR LOOK AT A WELD PRACTICE JOB

Welding instructor Charlie Fulkerson has been sharing his planning period with students to help them prepare for welding certification. The one-on-one, hands-on sessions provide extra practice time to refine skills and to receive feedback for further improvement.

Trenton Tilford has been working on his vertical or stick weld, showing marked growth since taking advantage of the opportunity. The sessions have also helped him feel more confident in his skills and in tackling a project.

In addition to the hands-on work, Fulkerson also shares his career experiences with students, giving them insight into different types of jobs and roles, early career stages and expectations, and moving up in the field.

The GC Technology Center and Welding program has recently added certification through the American Welding Society SENSE program. This provides another opportunity for students to earn a welding industry certification in addition to the current KYDOT3G certification.

For employers, certification demonstrates a welder's skills and knowledge of industry standards, while ensuring safety and quality. For students and employees, it is a validation of a welder's abilities, providing a significant competitive edge in the job market.
