District Champs! The GCHS Academic Team took first place overall at the annual Governor's Cup District Competition, also earning first in both Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving.
Individual placements included General Knowledge: Jocey Stinnett, 2nd Place and Garon Johnson, 4th; Math: Nolan Rister, 1st, Hunter Hayes, 2nd and Olivia Pons, 3rd; Science: Olivia Pons, 1st and Nolan Rister, 4th; Social Studies: Garon Johnson, 3rd and Adyson Parker, 4th; Arts and Humanities: Garon Johnson, 1st, Jocey Stinnett, 2nd and Derek Mudd, 4th; Language Arts: Peyton Decker, 3rd, Derek Mudd, 4th and Jocey Stinnett, 5th; Composition: Peyton Decker, 2nd and Derek Mudd, 5th place.
All of these students will move on to compete at Region 2 later in February.
The team is co-coached by Erina Duvall, Priscilla Gordeuk, and Adam Spinks (also Future Problem Solving coach), and Assistant Coach Will Johnson.
