Students, Parents, and the Grayson County Community:

Over the past several years, Grayson County High School has carefully reviewed how students use school-issued Chromebooks and evaluated our current device distribution process. Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, GCHS will follow the same Chromebook distribution model currently used at Grayson County Middle School and will transition away from assigning a Chromebook to every student.

This decision was made after reviewing several factors. In recent years, fewer students have regularly used checked-out Chromebooks, and much of the device damage has occurred while transporting them to and from school. We have also seen an increase in students forgetting devices at home or leaving them at school overnight in classrooms. In many cases, Chromebook use outside of school has shifted more toward entertainment rather than academic purposes.

At the same time, many classrooms have moved back toward more traditional paper-and-pencil instruction, using Chromebooks as a supplemental learning tool instead of an everyday necessity. Because of these changes, GCHS believes classroom Chromebook sets for teachers will better meet the instructional needs of students while also helping us better maintain and manage school technology resources.

Students will still have access to Chromebooks when needed. Devices will be available for short-term checkout through the GCHS Library, much like checking out a library book, for projects, assignments, or temporary at-home academic needs.

We appreciate your continued support as we work to provide students with effective learning opportunities and responsibly manage school resources

Help us celebrate our next GCHS Gnomey Homie recipients! These are nominated by staff members, and we love seeing the positive impact they’re making around our school. Congratulations to each of you for being recognized for your character, kindness, and the way you support others every day!

Nancy Mudd - She is an incredible teacher, coach, colleague, and friend who consistently goes above and beyond for her students and coworkers. She does an outstanding job with the Adaptive PE class, showing patience, encouragement, and genuine care. She is the kind of coworker everyone hopes for. She is always willing to listen, offer advice, and help others work through ideas or challenges.

Beverly Dowell - Jerry did not know Bev before coming to work at GCHS three years ago. He said he has found her to be one of the most appreciative people he has had the honor to get to know and call his friend. She is always thanking everyone for everything they do for her. She is great with the kids and kind to everyone. He will miss her next year once he retires!

We have the best staff at GCHS, and we love to showcase them, help me recognize our next GCHS Gnomey Homie recipients!!

Angela Hartz - She is a great teacher who is always willing to help others and provide positive encouragement. Her work ethic and genuine care for students and teachers are a true inspiration. She is making a positive impact on many students' lives. We are truly grateful to be able to learn and be inspired every day.

Coach Drake - He does a lot for GCHS! He gets along great with the staff and takes time to talk to students. Most of all, he is a friend to everyone and very deserving of the award. On a personal note, Mr. Rudnick appreciates Coach Drake taking time to talk to him about anything, but mostly sports. It is an honor for him to call you a friend!
